Guided Outdoor Falconry

Heritage Walks

Step into centuries of tradition. Walk ancient Irish landscapes with birds of prey soaring overhead — a living connection to the island's falconry heritage.

What to Expect

Where Ancient Craft Meets the Irish Wilderness

Our Heritage Walks are immersive, unhurried journeys into the heart of Irish falconry tradition. Guided by experienced falconers, you'll explore dramatic landscapes — from bogland and ancient woodland to riversides and medieval ruins — accompanied by magnificent birds of prey.

Unlike static demonstrations, these walks invite you to actively participate. You'll fly the birds, learn to read their behaviour, and understand the deep bond between falconer and raptor that has been cultivated in Ireland for over a thousand years.

Each walk is carefully curated to reflect the cultural and natural heritage of Co. Offaly and the Shannon region — a landscape that has inspired Irish storytelling and tradition since the age of the High Kings.

Do I need to be physically fit?

Our walks are gentle and suitable for most fitness levels. Routes are walked at a leisurely pace with frequent stops to fly the birds. We recommend comfortable, waterproof footwear and layered clothing.

What age can participate?

Children aged 8 and above can participate when accompanied by an adult. Younger children are welcome to attend and observe. All participants under 16 must be with a guardian.

What happens in bad weather?

This is Ireland — light rain only adds to the atmosphere! We walk in most weather conditions. In the event of severe weather (storms, thunder), we will reschedule at no cost to you.

When is the best season?

Heritage Walks run year-round. Autumn (September–November) is particularly atmospheric, with golden foliage and low mist. Spring brings wildflowers and nesting activity. Winter walks have a dramatic, quiet beauty all their own.

Guest Stories

What Walkers Are Saying

The Clonmacnoise walk was unlike anything I've ever done. Having a peregrine falcon circle above those ancient ruins while our guide told us the history — it gave me chills. Pure magic.

Catherine L.

Dublin, Ireland

We came from Toronto specifically to do the Bogland Eagle walk. It exceeded every expectation. The landscape, the birds, the knowledge of the guide — utterly world class. Already planning our return.

Michael R.

Ontario, Canada

I booked the Shannon Trail for my parents' anniversary. Seán made it so personal and relaxed. My 72-year-old mother had a hawk land on her arm and she hasn't stopped talking about it since!
